7 tests positive for first COVID-19 cases in Dinajpur

Seven people from Narayanganj and Gazipur who have recently returned to Dinajpur have tested positive for coronavirus, also the district's first COVID-19 cases.

Civil surgeon Dr Abdul Kuddus said the patients affected were from upazila Dinajpur Sadar, Nababganj and Phulbari.

The Civil Surgeon said on Monday they sent 90 samples for coronavirus tests to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH), and seven of them came out positive.

The patients were transferred to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital isolation units, he said adding, "We're trying to track their contacts." The district is already under lockdown to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, he said.

Bangladesh has so far reported 1,012 cases and 46 deaths.
