Bomb, bomb-making materials recovered in Sylhet

Police recovered a powerful bomb and materials used to bomb the house of a suspected Neo-JMB militant, Sanaul Islam Sadi, in Sylhet City's Jalalabad residential area on Tuesday night.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) team and the police arrested five alleged Neo JMB members, including its Sylhet Sector Chief, from different parts of the city on the road from Monday to Tuesday morning, said Sohel Rana, Second Officer of Shahparan Police Station.

The arrestees were named as Naimuzzaman, Regional Chief of Neo JMB, Sylhet, Mirza Sayem, Jewel, Sanaul Isalm Sadi and Rubel.

Later, a CTTC and police team arrived at the Sanaul house around 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and seized an active bomb, a material-processing bomb, a variety of computers and a laptop.

The arrestees plotted to attack the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal, the CTTC unit said.

Naimuzzaman was a student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) and Sanaul and Saym were students at Madan Mohan College.
