Gang-rape at MC College: Accused Saifur, Arjun on 5-day remand

On Monday, a Sylhet court held Saifur Rahman and Arjun Lashkar on a five-day remand, each in a case filed at Murari Chand College over Friday's gang-rape.

After the investigation officer of the case put them before the court requesting five-day remand for each accused, Magistrate passed the order.

On Sunday, the key suspect, Saifur Rahman, son of Tauhid of Balaganj Upazila, was arrested by Noarai Ghat in Chhatak Upazila of Sunamganj. 

Arjun, number 4 accused, was arrested on the same day from the border area of Mantala in Madhabpur Upazila of Habiganj.

Early Monday, however, members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested another defendant from Fenchuganj Upazila of Sylhet.

The number of arrestees in the case increased to five with the latest arrest, police said.

Earlier, about 10 pm on Sunday, another accused Robiul Islam from Nabiganj Upazila was arrested by a police detective branch unit, said Anwar Hossain, additional superintendent of the Habiganj police.

Meanwhile, about 9 pm, another Rab team arrested Shah Mahbubur Rahman Roni, accused of Habiganj Sadar, said ASP Obtain, Rab-9 media officer.

On Friday night, a 19-year-old married girl was raped in a college dormitory by a gang of youths. 

The suspects tied the victim's husband up and raped her in a college hostel bed.

Police rescued the pair, based on details.

In the early hours of Saturday, the victim's husband filed a case at Shah Poran Police Station against nine people who listed the names of six people.
