The Election Commission ( EC) lodged a case against independent lawmaker Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon of the Faridpur-4 constituency on charges of violating the Electoral Code of Conduct during the chairman election of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad.

Saiful Islam, an election commission official, said that Senior District Election Commission officer Nauabul Islam filed the case with the Charbhadrashon police station about 10 am.

Judicial action against the MP under the Upazila Parishad Electoral Code 2013 and the Upazila Parishad Elector Code of Conduct 2016 was pursued in the FIR case.

Faridpur-4 MP Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury allegedly threatened the Faridpur district deputy commissioner and assistant commissioner (land) over the arrest of his supporters during by-polls to the office of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad chairman.

After Awami League candidate Upazila Awami League General Secretary Md Kawsar Hossain (boat symbol) won the election, he came up with a threat at a victory rally held in front of the Charbhadrasan Upazila Awami League office.

On Saturday, the by-election for the post of Chairman of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad took place.

The election was contested by a total of seven candidates. Two of the candidates withdrew their nominations before the primary.

In the Charbhadrasan Upazila elections, magistrates were appointed as demanded by the Election Commission to hold the election in a free, fair, and peaceful setting, said Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar of Faridpur.
