Haji Selim’s son Irfan arrested for attacking Navy official

Irfan Selim, son of Dhaka-7 lawmaker Haji Mohammad Selim, was arrested on Sunday night in a case filed on charges of assaulting Bangladesh Navy Lt. Wasif Ahmed Khan in the Dhanmondi area of Dhaka.

Irfan, a councilor of ward 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation, was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive carried out on Monday afternoon at the residence of Haji Selim at the Madina tower in Lalbagh area of old Dhaka.

Sarwar Alam, the RAB 's executive magistrate, led the move. In this respect, the law enforcers also detained two other people.

Wasif filed a case with the Dhanmondi Police Station earlier in the morning, naming four defendants, including Irfan Selim, 37, and two to three unidentified individuals.

AB Siddique Dipu, 45, Md Zahid, 35, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30, are the three other named defendants.

According to the case statement, as he and his wife were heading to Dhaka Cantonment from Nilkhet about 7:45 pm, a private car struck Lt Wasif's motorcycle in Dhanmondi.

Some people got out of the car and insulted him and his wife verbally and left the place.

Lt Wasif knocked on the window of the car and introduced himself when the car stopped at a nearby signal, after which the passengers got out of the car again.

They assaulted Lt Wasif physically and went away instantly, leaving the car behind, said the case statement.

On duty, Lt Wasif was rescued by police and the driver was arrested along with the vehicle.

Some people filmed the event and it later went viral on social media.

It appears in the video that the victim is presenting himself to the officer of the armed forces, Lt Wasim. "My motorcycle struck a vehicle. I decided to speak to the offenders in the car. I had my identity revealed. But they began beating me. My wife hasn't been spared. I do not know the motive for the assault.
