Personal assistant to Erfan Selim arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) arrested AB Siddique Dipu, personal assistant to Dhaka 7 MP Haji Md Salim's son Erfan Selim, in a case filed for the 'assault' of Bangladesh Navy Lt. Wasif Ahmed Khan in the Dhanmondi area of Dhaka.

Confirming the report, DB Additional Commissioner AKM Hafeez Akhter said that early Tuesday, law enforcers arrested Dipu from Tangail and later brought him to Dhaka.

On Monday night, Lt Wasif filed the case with the Dhanmondi Police Station, naming four defendants, including AB Siddique Dipu, and two to three unidentified individuals.

Erfan Selim (37), Md Zahid (35) and Md Mizanur Rahman (30) are the other three named defendants.

Erfan Selim, a councilor of ward 30 of Dhaka South City Corporation, and Md Zahid were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) after conducting a drive to Erfan 's house in Old Dhaka on Monday.

After illicit weapons, arms, liquor, walkie-talkies and handcuffs were found during the raid, a mobile court headed by RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam also jailed the lawmaker's son and Zahid for a year each.

On the same day, Erfan's driver, Mizanur Rahman, who was arrested shortly after the incident, was put on one-day remand in connection with the case by a Dhaka court.

A video of Lieutenant Wasif shouting for justice before the public after being attacked by Erfan and a couple of accomplices went viral on social media on Sunday night.

The assault took place around 7:45pm on Sunday in the Kalabagan bus stop area, when the military officer protested after Erfan 's vehicle, which had a parliament sticker, struck his motorcycle.
