No book festival this year, textbooks to be reached students’ hand

The book festival is not being held this year as the education ministry has cancelled it due to coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic.

New textbooks, however, will be delivered to each student of primary and secondary level in alternative ways, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni.

The Awami League-led government has been celebrating book festival on the first day of New Year since 2010 and handing over new books to students. In the last 11 years, some of 366 crore 87 lakh 77 thousand 566 books have been distributed to the school students at free of cost, she said.

Dipu Moni said, “Books will be ready. But due to health risks, we will not be able to assemble and hand over books to the students.”
