Senior ASP Anisul's death: NIMH’s registrar arrested

Police arrested Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, registrar of National Institute of Mental Health & Hospital (NIMH), in connection with a case filed over the murder of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim.0.

The law enforcers arrested him from his residence in the capital on Tuesday morning, said Harun-Ur-Rashid, deputy commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.   

Dr Mamun has a private chamber at Mind Aid Hospital, where the senior ASP was allegedly beaten to death by the hospital's staff on November 9.

With him, 13 people so far have been arrested in the case filed over the death. 

Anisul's father Faijuddin Ahmed filed the case with Adabor Police Station, accusing 15 people, including five shareholders of the hospital, of murdering his 35-year-old son.

According to family members, Anisul had been admitted to the hospital in the capital's Adabor area on on November 9.

Analyzing the CCTV footage of the hospital, Anisul was seen being dragged into a soundproof room by several staffers and thrown to the ground by six employees.

Two more employees dressed in blue garbs held his leg and two others hit him with their elbow. Anisul's hands were tied behind his back with a piece of blue cloth.

There were no doctors in the soundproof room at the time, police said.
