Bangabandhu mural vandalised in Thakurgaon, man held

A mural by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman On Friday, nearly a month after damaging a statue of the greatest Bengali of all time in the Kushtia district region, a man was vandalized in Pirganj of Thakurgaon.

Police rushed to the spot after collecting information from the locals and arrested a man red-handed.

Nur Alam, 42, a carpenter by profession, from Raghunathpur village, was named as the arrestee.

The incident took place in Pirganj municipal town on Friday at around 4:00pm.

Pirganj Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Roy said that as Nur hit it with a stone, one side of the mural, which was installed in March 2019, was damaged. The Bangabandhu portrait, however, was not harmed.

The police official said they were trying to figure out Nur's motive behind this vandalism act.
