The prime accused was arrested in a case filed for attempting to rape a college girl on a moving bus at Sujanagar in Sunamganj's Dirai Upazila.

Members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday morning arrested Shahid Mia, the bus driver, from the Sunamganj Old Bus Stand area.

The arrest was confirmed by Md Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of Sunamganj Police.

Earlier on December 26, members of the Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) arrested 27-year-old Abdur Rashid, a bus assistant, from the Boraigaon area under the Sunamganj Gobindaganj.

After jumping off a moving bus to avoid an attempted rape on December 26, Sunamganj was injured by a college student.

That night, the victim, a student at Dirai Degree College and a resident of Majlishpur, boarded a Dirai bus from Sylhet.

Around 9pm, when the bus entered Sujanagar village, the victim discovered that she was the only passenger.

She jumped off the bus at one point when the bus driver and helper attempted to rape her and was wounded.

Later, she was taken to the Hospital of Sylhet Osmani Medical College.

During the night at Dirai Police Station, the victim's father lodged a complaint against the driver and the bus assistant.
