The ferry services on the key Paturia-Daulatia route resumed on Sunday morning after an over eight and half hours of disruption due to poor visibility caused by dense fog.   Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s (BIWTC) Aricha terminal Manager Abdus Salam said ferry services resumed from 10am after visibility improved.

Around 1:30am, the authorities suspended ferry services because of low visibility to avoid unwanted incidents, the official added. Several hundred vehicles remained stranded on both sides.

The authorities concerned are allowing passenger vehicles to cross the river first considering their sufferings. Goods-laden truck will be allowed later after clearing the passenger vehicles.

Suspension of ferry services due to poor visibility is a common occurrence during winter in Bangladesh.
