A Dhaka court today sentenced three people to death in a case lodged over murder of a woman and her son in capital’s Kakrail area in 2017.

Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Robiul Islam passed the order, awarding death sentence to Abdul Karim, husband of the victim Shamsunnahar and two others.

The court also fined the three convicts Taka 20 thousand each. The other two convicts are Karim’s third wife Sharmin Mukta and Mukta’s brother Al Amin alias Jonny. Public Prosecutor Salauddin Hawlader expressed satisfaction over the judgement and pleaded for quick execution of the verdict.

Earlier on January 10, the court had set today to pronounce the verdict as both the prosecution and defence concluded their closing arguments on that day. Shamsunnahar, 45, and her son Shaon were slaughtered in their 79/A Anjuman Mofidul Islam Road house in Kakrail on November 1, 2017.

Shamsunnahar’s brother Ashraf Ali filed the case on November 2, 2017, against her husband Abdul Karim, a wholesale spice trader based in Shyambazar, his third wife Sharmin Mukta, Mukta’s brother Jonny and others.

Ramna Police Station inspector (investigation) Ali Hossain on July 16, 2018, filed charge sheet against Karim, Mukta and Jonny.

Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Session Judge Robiul Islam on January 31, 2019, framed charges against the accused and examined 17 out of 22 prosecution witnesses on different hearing dates.
