The seventh Khagrachhari municipality election was held peacefully in the second phase on January 16
 
Khagrachhari district Awami League general secretary Nirmalendu Chowdhury was elected mayor with 9 thousand 32 votes. His nearest rival is an independent mayoral candidate and current mayor Rafiqul Alam. He got 8 thousand 749 votes. On the other hand, BNP candidate Ibrahim Khalil is third with 4 thousand 308 votes and Jatiya Party candidate Firoz Ahmed is in the last position with 184 votes.
 
 
According to the Khagrachhari District Election Office, this time the total number of voters in Khagrachhari Municipality is 36 thousand 87. Of these, 20 thousand 351 are male voters and 16 thousand 736 are female voters.
 
An analysis of the total number of votes received for the post of mayor shows that 22 thousand 273 voters have exercised their voting right. Of these, 75 votes have been canceled.  The total number of valid votes was 22 thousand 348. 60 percent of the total voters have received votes. 14 thousand 814 people did not vote.
 
The elected councilors are Atish Chakma in 1st ward, Manik Patwari in 2nd ward, Md. Shah Alam in 3rd ward, Bachchu Moni Chakma in 4th ward, Abdul Majid in 5th ward, Rezaul Karim in 6th ward, Monme Marma in 7th ward, Parimal Debnath in 8th ward and Riton in 9th ward.
 
Besides Saleha Rahman, Shahida Akhter and Ukraine Marma have been elected as councilors in the reserved women's seats of wards 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
 
Raju Ahmed, the returning officer of the municipal elections, announced the final results in a private vote on Saturday evening.  At that time, he said, the election was fair.  There was no chaos anywhere.
