“We want you people to give importance on research,” she said, assuring the DU authorities that her government will do everything for regain the lost glory of the university. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni spoke at the function as the special guest while eminent economist Professor Rehman Sobhan read out the keynote paper. Vice Chancellor (VC) of the DU Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function while convener of the conference convening committee Prof Dr. Imtiaz Ahmed moderated it.

Mentioning that her government has a target to restore the lost glory of Dhaka University, Sheikh Hasina said, “Dhaka University is the best university in the country. So, we hope that the university will get back its lost glory with exercising knowledge, conducting research works alongside spreading education as it is the lighthouse of all of our achievements. The light of the university will spread all over the country.”

She said that she want the betterment of Dhaka University as it has shown the path of getting all the achievements. The premier thanked the Dhaka University authorities to take a master plan to build it as a modern, knowledge and technology based university.

The prime minister said after assuming office in 1996, her government had taken measures to bring back the educational atmosphere in the educational institutes including the Dhaka University where it was heard the sounds of explosions and gunshots.

Mentioning that no nation could prosper without education, she said, “The duty of our teachers is to teach the students while the students have the responsibility to learn from the teachers. So, everyone should work keeping that in mind.”
