On Sunday, Parliament passed three amendment bills aimed at publishing the results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams by next January 28.
The 'Intermediate and Secondary Education (Amendment) Bill, 2021," Bangladesh Technical Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021' and 'Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board (Amendment) Bill, 2021' are these bills.
Now, the bills will be submitted for presidential approval.
The reports will be released after the President's signature.
Earlier, on 19 January, Dr Dipu Moni, Minister of Education, placed the bills in the House and sent them for further consideration to the respective Parliamentary Standing Committee.
There is no provision to report the results of the HSC and its equivalent examinations without conducting examinations, as per current laws.
The amendment bills were passed because it was not possible to perform exams in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The findings will be released after 75% of the SSC and 25% of the JSC-JDC outcomes have been coordinated, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said recently.
In October 2019, due to the situation with Covid-19, the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams were postponed.
A draft bill for an amendment to the Intermediate and Secondary Education Ordinance 1961 was previously approved by the cabinet, enabling education boards to publish results in any crisis without conducting examinations.
A seven-member technical committee headed by additional ministry secretary Nazmul Haque Khan was established in October by the Ministry of Education to establish a method of assessing candidates on the basis of their previous SSC and JSC outcomes.
The 2020 HSC class will be the first batch of students who will earn certificates without sitting for the tests, as a public exam has been canceled for the first time in the country's history.
