Two killed, 27 hurt in violence over Ctg city polls

In separate clashes between supporters of councilor candidates over the election of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) on Wednesday, two people were killed and 27 others wounded.

In Pahartoli, during a clash between supporters of Awami League-backed councilor candidate Wasim Uddin and AL rebel candidate Mahmudur Rahman at 10:30 am, a man was killed and 5 others were wounded.

The deceased was known as Alauddin, Mahmudur Rahman's supporter.

The news was reported by Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Outpost ASI Alauddin Talukder.

Earlier in the day, at one stage of the altercation over the polls in the Diamond Church Community Centre district, a Chhatra League activist named Nizum Uddin Munna was stabbed to death by his brother, Salauddin Kamrul. They were backers of two candidates who were different.

In addition, two people were wounded in a clash between the supporters of two rebel council candidates in front of the Asadganj polling station.

According to witnesses and police, the clash took place outside the Asadganj Sobahania Alia Madrasa center at about 8:30 am on Wednesday.

It was also not possible to know the names of the wounded persons.

Meanwhile, during the Chattogram City Corporation election vote, twenty people were wounded in a clash between the supporters of AL-backed councilors and rebel AL candidates in front of a polling center in Lalkhan Bazar.
In the city, a cocktail bomb exploded, which created a sense of fear among voters.

It was also not possible to know the names of the wounded persons.

Earlier, the CCC elections began at 8 a.m. with the Awami League ruling confident about victory and the BNP continuing with caution.
