Health experts plead for COVID-19 vaccine for health safety

Public health specialists and physicians of the country have suggested for inoculation of COVID-19 vaccine to ensure health safety of all including the state , family and individual.

Pointing out that there are no side effects of the COVID-19 vaccination in human body, they added that it had been visible that the person, who is injected the test-vaccine, was pretty much well maintaining sound health condition even after seven hours of receiving the vaccine.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the COVID-19 vaccination campaign for the first time at Kurmitola General Hospital through videoconferencing from her official Ganabhaban residence yesterday where a total of 26 people were vaccinated. Today, about 500 more people have been administered with COVID-19 on trial basis in five centers in the capital.

The vaccination programme of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) started at 9 am on its premises today with the vaccination of BSMMU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Kanak Kanti Barua.

Talking to BSS, BSMMU VC Prof Barua noted that he did his full time office hours with sound health after receiving the vaccine.

“I have received the vaccine and I felt nothing unusual . I am in good condition as there are no side effects inside my body,” he said.

“Those who are still confused to take the vaccine I urge them to take this vaccine without any hesitation” he said hoping that the people of the country will be motivated to get vaccinated to ensure national health protection by seeing us who have been vaccinated experimentally on the first day.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education) of BSMMU Prof. Sahana Akhter Rahman told BSS that she is enough fortunate to have the vaccine.

" I have not yet had any side effects after receiving the vaccine though all vaccines have minor side effects. There is nothing to be afraid of" she said.

Terming her as the luckiest person after being vaccinated Professor Dr Shahana Akhter Rahman urged all not to be panicked over the vaccination issue.

BSMMU Treasurer and Chairman of the Department of Respiratory Medicine Professor Dr Mohammed Atiqur Rahman also took vaccine today.

Expressing satisfaction over the vaccination programme, he called upon the nation to act responsibly by taking the COVID-19 vaccine during the vaccination programme saying that those who will be vaccinated will not only ensure their own health but also help keep the nation safe in the days to come.

Bangladesh received its first ever COVID-19 vaccine consignment on January 21 (Thursday) as India sent 20 lakh doses of vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca as gift.

The second consignment of COVID-19 50 lakh Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines, purchased by the government landed in Dhaka on January 25.

The total doses of vaccine now stands at 70 lakh . The government has taken all necessary preparations for distribution and preservation of these 70 lakh doses of vaccine.

The possible vaccine recipients as per the priority list are 452,027 government health workers and approved 600,000 private health workers directly engaged in treating COVID-19 disease.

The other priority groups includes 210,000 freedom fighters, 546,620 members of the frontline law enforcement agencies, 360,913 members from the military and civil defense forces, 50,000 officials and employees working in the offices which are indispensable for the state, 50,000 frontline media personnel, 178,298 elected public representatives, 150,000 frontline employees of the city corporations and municipalities , 541,000 religious representatives, 75,000 people engaged in burial works, 400,000 staff engaged in emergency water, gas, sewerage, power, fire service and transport services.

Besides, 150,000 workers of land, river and air ports, 120,000 expatriate workers, 400,000 government employees engaged in district and upazila-level emergency public services, 197,621 officials and employees of banks, 625,000 low immunity people (tuberculosis, AIDS and cancer patients), 10,326,658 elderly people aged from 64-79 , 1,312,973 elderly people from the 80-years onward group, 21,863 players of the national teams (including football, cricket and hockey national teams) and 170,000 people from buffer, emergency and outbreak groups are included in the list.
