Lower courts allow bail to 27,844 accused through virtual hearing

Lower courts and tribunals across the country in the last 16 working days have granted bail to 27,844 accused after hearing their pleas virtually.

Confirming the matter to BSS, Supreme Court spokesperson and High Court Division Special Officer Md Saifur Rahman said the lower courts and tribunals across the country in the last 16 working days have disposed of 51,882 bail pleas and allowed bail to 27,844 accused.

“Of the total number of accused those who were granted bail in the last 16 days, 367 were juvenile. The lower courts and tribunals on May 4 disposed of 3,088 bail pleas and allowed bail to 1,536 accused,” he added.

Including the latest figures, the total number of bail pleas disposed of by the lower courts and tribunal across the country since the start of the corona pandemic is 1, 99,221. Against these pleas, 1, 73,000 accused have been granted bail through virtual hearing during a total 74 working days.
