Joining of the people recruited on the last working day of the outgoing Vice Chancellor M Abdus Sobhan at Rajshahi University has been postponed. This information was given in a circular signed by the Registrar of the University, Professor Abdus Salam on Saturday. Copies of the notification have been sent to all the departments of the university.

According to the notification, a letter from the Ministry of Education on May 6 said that all the appointments issued on May 5/6 on ad hoc basis have been declared illegal and an inquiry committee has been constituted by the Ministry of Education in this regard. Therefore, in the light of the report of the inquiry committee, it has been requested to suspend the joining of these appointments and all related activities till a decision is taken.

Earlier on May 6 (May 5 in the appointment letter), Professor M Abdus Sobhan appointed 137 people as teachers, officers and employees on Ad-hoc basis. However, the Ministry of Education has formed a committee to investigate the appointment. The committee came to the university on Saturday and carried out their investigation.

Deputy Registrar of the Establishment Branch signed the executive order of the Vice-Chancellor. After giving an interview to the inquiry committee of the Ministry of Education, Professor Abdus Salam said that he went into hiding the day before the appointment not to sign the illegal appointment letter.
