Hefazat leader Mamunul has been remanded in custody for 15 days

Former Hefazat-e-Islam Central Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque, who is in jail on five charges including rape and violence, has been remanded in custody for 15 days. Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Humayun Kabir granted the remand on Wednesday (May 12).

Mamunul Haque was presented to the jury in a virtual court and Police applied for a 36-day remand in five cases. according to Narayanganj Court Police Inspector Asaduzzaman. Of these, 10 days in rape cases, 14 days in two cases of violence in Sonargaon, and 14 days in two cases of violence in Siddhirganj. Following the hearing, the court granted a 15-day remand for three days in each case.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Narayanganj District Superintendent of Police (SP) Monirul Islam said one of the accused in the police violence case has given a confessional statement under section 164 in the court admitting sabotage on the instructions of Mamunul Haque. Therefore, Mamunul Haque has been remanded for questioning and remanded for seven days. The hearing will be held through a virtual court after the Eid holiday.
