Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has refused to accept the claims made by various research institutes that the country has fallen below the poverty line of 2.5 crore people. The minister said, "I don't know where the people who said these things got this information." However, I do not accept the information published by various organizations.

"I do not accept this account of the new poor," he told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement on Wednesday (June 9th). Those who have a list of two crore or one crore or 10 people need to know where they got this information.

“We have in-house institutions to do this, such as BBS, BIDS. Until I get information from all these organizations, I cannot receive information from other organizations ” he added.

The Power and Participation Research Center (PPRC), a private research institute, and the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) released a research report on April 20, claiming that about 2.5 crore people in Korona have fallen below the poverty line. As a result, the poverty rate in the country is now 40 percent.
