Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said those who use religion for political gains want to create divisions among the people in a planned way.

“Those who could not accept the country’s independence and cannot accept its development and prosperity want to make division among the people to weaken the nation and tarnish the image of the country,” he said, adding: “BNP and their cohorts want to make this division.”

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said this at a press briefing at his official residence.

He said there is a big different between BNP’s talk talks and their activities as its leaders have turned making falsehood into ‘an art’.

Responding to BNP’s allegation that the government is involved with the communal violence, the AL general secretary said actually BNP leaders are making such one-eyed absurd behaviors as the truth is coming out from video-footages.

He said BNP itself is politically communal as they consider the minority community as their enemy.

Quader said BNP thought if puja mandaps come under attack, the Hindu community’s confidence in the government will decrease and the prevailing friendly ties between Bangladesh and India will get spoiled.

In the past, BNP had spread the misleading information that mosques would turn into temples and ululation (ulludwani) will be made at mosques (if AL comes to power), he mentioned.

He said only BNP has the patent of doing such evil acts and making absolute falsehood.

The minister recalled that during the BNP tenure in 2001, the communal violence on minority community had superseded the brutality of 1971Liberation War. BNP still could not come out of their communal politics, he said.

Quader said today is the holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi, the birth and demise anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SM).

Noting that the day is very sacred and glorified for the Muslim Ummah, Quader urged all Muslim devotees to firmly follow the immortal message of Prophet Muhammad of not making excess over religion.

On behalf of the party, Quader also greeted members of Buddhist community on the occasion of Probarona Purnima, the second largest festival of the Buddhist community.
