A court here has placed an alleged military wing commander of banned militant outfit neo-JMB on a seven-day remand in a case lodged with Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order on Thursday as police produced Abdullah Al Noman alias Abu Basir before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit arrested Noman, believed to be the perpetrator behind the Paltan police box bomb attack in July, 2020, from Mirpur Majar Road area on Wednesday.

According to the case documents, Abdullah Al Noman alias Abu Basir joined the militant group in 2017 and used to circulate extremism provoking content on social media and later started working in the military wing under the guidance of Neo JMB Ameer Mahadi Hasan Jon.

He took a room on rent in the capital's Manda area and made IED (improvised explosive device) by watching videos online.

Following the direction of his group, Noman had planted an IED in front of Paltan police box on July 24, 2020, and later detonated it through remote control, police said.
