AL backed panel sweeps Jashore Bar elections

Ruling Awami League (AL) backed lawyers' panel has won a landslide victory in the Jashore Bar Association elections bagging 9 posts among 13 including the president and general secretary.
BNP-backed lawyers' panel Jatiyatabadi Lawyers United Council (JLUC) got only four posts including two vice-presidents, an assistant secretary and an executive member.
Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Ismot Hasar declared the result at 10.00 pm after the polls held from 10 am to 4.00 pm on Friday.
In the election, AL backed candidate Advocate Sharif Nur Mohammad Ali Reza was elected president, bagging 265 votes while pro AL candidate Shanur Alom Shahin became general secretary, getting 379 votes.
The other office-bearers are: JLUC candidates MA Latif and Manjur Kadir Ashik (Vice-president), AL backed candidate Palak Kumar Maitro (Joint-Secretary), pro AL candidate Bashir Ahmed Khan and JLUC candidate Julfiker Ali (Assistant Secretaries), AL candidate SM Nasir Alom (Library secretary) and pro AL candidates Tarik Anam Anik, Udoyon Biswas, Rezaur Rahman, Arif Shariar, and pro BNP candidate Selim Reza (Members).
A total of twenty six candidates against 13 posts contested in the polls.
A total of 494, out of total 509, voters cast votes in the elections.
