The final round of Bangabandhu National Skills Competition-2021 will be held on December 29-30 in the capital's four venues.

"The competition is being organised across the country with the aim of creating new employment opportunities, to motivate the youth in skills on training, accelerate the development of human resource and to develop skills for creating employment in different countries," said Dulal Krishna Saha, executive chairman (secretary) of National Skills Development Authority (NSDA).

At the divisional level, 66 contestants would participate in the final round and the finalists who achieve the desired score will have the opportunity to participate in the 46th World Skills Competition to be held in Shanghai, China in October next year, he said today while speaking at a press briefing at Bangladesh Investment Development Authority's (BIDA) Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area.

"Now, more than five lakh foreign manpower is working in the garment sector only... Employment opportunities are not being created in the same way as skilled manpower is being created in the country. As a result, country's money is going abroad," he added.

At least one crore of skilled manpower is needed to retain the domestic resources, he said, adding:"In order to sustain the economical growth, the productivity of workers must be increased."

A total of 1,707 candidates from eight divisions took part for the examination in 13 trades including painting and decorating, plastering and drywall systems, fashion technology, print media technology, IT network system administration, web technologies, cyber security, welding, cooking, restaurant services, confectionary and bakery.
