Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, yesterday warned of stern actions against the culprits who were behind the attacks on the Hindus in Brahmanbaria district early this morning.

"Attackers must get punishment as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government is in a tough position against such criminals," he said while speaking at Wangala (Nabannya) festival of Garo community on Banani Model School ground here.

The minister categorically said the government went tough on the attacks on minority people, their houses and temples and would face such attacks with an iron hand.

He asked the Garo community people not to consider themselves as a minority group as they have equal rights. "People of all communities including Muslims, Hindus, Christians and Buddhists are same and equal. There is no majority or minority, all citizens are equal," the minister mentioned.

He said all people irrespective of castes, colours and creeds will enjoy equal rights in the country.

Quader called upon all Garo people to live in the country keeping their heads high.

Nakma Durjoy Taju of Wangala Utsab Parishad presided over the function. Awami League Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Jewel Arang, MP, and AL leader Remond Areng, among others, were present on the occasion.

Miscreants torched and vandalized several houses and temples and looted other valuables this morning five days after the attack on the minority community in the same district.
