Zia to be tried posthumously for killing FF: Mozammel

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq yesterday said Ziaur Rahman would be brought to justice posthumously on charge of killing freedom fighters, taking over power illegally and misusing power.

"Ziaur Rahman killed lots of freedom fighters like Khaled Mosharraf and rehabilitated anti-liberation forces in the country after the August 15 carnage. At first Zia opposed to take part in the Liberation War under the Mujibnagar Government," he told a discussion at Public Library auditorium at Shahbagh here.

Major General Khaleda Mosharraf Bir Uttam Smriti Parishad organized the discussion in observance of November 7 as "Freedom Fighter Killing Day".

Eminent jurist Barrister Amir-ul Islam, National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Harun-or-Rashid, Khaled Mosharraf's daughter Mehjabeen Khaled, MP, Jatiya Press Club President Shafiqur Rahman, Major (retd) Nasir Uddin, Captain (retd) Shachin Karmakar and Mahbub Uddin, Bir Bikram, among others, addressed the discussion with the parishad president Maj Gen Khaled Mosharraf's wife Salma Khaled in the chair.

The minister said Ziaur Rahman and Khandkar Mostaq had hatched conspiracy even during the Liberation War. "Khaled Mosharraf did not betray with the nation in a way Ziaur Rahman did," he added.

Barrister Amir-ul Islam said the nation will always remember the contribution of Khaled Mosharraf with respect while it will hate the killers.

Professor Harun-or-Rashid called upon the new generation to know the true history of the country.

Mehjabeen Khaled demanded of bringing the killers of freedom fighters to justice and recognizing Major General Khaled Mosharraf as chief of army staff.
