Govt to celebrate recognition of Mangol Shovajatra as world heritage Jan 21

The government will formally celebrate UNESCO's recognition of Bengali new year procession 'Mangol Shovajatra' as world heritage.

UNESCO recognized the Bengali's traditional Mangol Shovajatra on Pahela Boishakh (Bengali new year) as a world heritage on November 30, 2016.

To celebrate the achievement, the ministry for cultural affairs will bring out a colourful procession at 3 pm on January 21. 

A discussion meeting and cultural function will also be held on the occasion, said a press release.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will lead the procession from Shilpakala Academy to Fine Arts Institute at Dhaka University (DU).

The procession will be followed by a discussion meeting and cultural function at Bakultala of DU Fine Arts Institute. Organized the students of DU Fine Arts Institute, Mangol Shovajatra has been an integral part of Pahela Boishakh celebration since 1989.
