MoU signing ceremony between a2i Programme, BREB, Bank Asia and NRB Commercial Bank

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Access to Information (a2i) Programme of Prime Minister’s Office, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board(BREB), Bank Asia Limited and NRB Commercial Bank Limited on 08 March, 2017 at SSF Briefing Room of the Prime Minister’s Office to launch electronic bill payment service of BREB through Digital Center.

Kabir Bin Anwar, Director General (Administration), Prime Minister’s Office and Project Director of a2i Programme, Khaleda Parvin, Secretary of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB), Md. Arfan Ali, Managing Director of Bank Asia Limited and Dewan Mujibur Rahman, Managing Director of NRB Commercial Bank Limited signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.

Under this MOU, the bill payment of BREB and other e-services will be provided electronically through ‘agent banking’ of Digital Center located at Union, Upazila, Municipality and City Corporation level across the country. Through agent banking initiative, BREB bill payment system will be faster and time saver. In addition, it will help to shape citizen-oriented digital center through reducing citizen’s time, money and travel related hassles. Moreover, it also helps to achieve the current government's goal of ‘Vision- 2021’.

Digital center is a thriving modern center for providing information-technology based services which has been established in union councils, municipalities and the City Corporation Wards and has already provided about 27 core to 80 million services among the citizen of Bangladesh. 30,207 bank accounts were opened, 78 core 44 lakh 88 thousand money transferring process through banking channels, 6 core 40 lakh 10 thousand remittance transfer service, provided 2 core 68 million 28 thousand passport fees, 12,000 passport application services provided through online, millions of men, women, workers and professionals online registration and also receive 4 lakh 50 thousand land record without any hassle are unique record of Digital Center.

Naimuzzaman Mukta, Local Development Specialist of a2i, Md. Imdadul Islam, Board Member of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, senior officials of a2i Programme, Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board, Bank Asia Limited, NRB Commercial Bank Limited and Media representatives were present in this MoU signing Programme.
