Indian army chief to visit Dhaka second time in a month

The visit follows Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina trip to India from Apr 7 to 10 when both sides signed agreements to strengthen defence relations.

Indian Army chief General Bipin Rawat is to visit Dhaka again on April 27, to upgrade the bilateral defence relationship.

This is the second time Rawat is visiting Dhaka in a month, reports the Times of India.

The visit follows Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina trip to India from Apr 7 to 10 when both sides signed agreements to strengthen defence relations.

According to the report, the Indian Army chief will discuss the different steps being taken to build military-to-military ties during his visit to Bangladesh from April 27 to 30.

The two countries had inked signed 22 instruments, including a defence cooperation pact during

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit, with India also offering a new $500m line of credit to Bangladesh for military purchases like off-shore patrol vessels.

Two submarines from China were added to Bangladesh armada last November.

Earlier, he visited Dhaka from Mar 31 to Apr 2.
