With a firm resolve to keep up the continuation of landmark strides that the country has taken under the current government, Prime Minister's ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed yesterday urged the youths to pin their reliance on Awami League and partner the party to transform Bangladesh into developed one.

He made the call during an interactive discussion with a group of youths at the 18th edition of "Let's Talk". Center for Research and Information (CRI) organized the event at a city hotel this evening where around 350 youths, ranging from private and public university students and a group of professionals took part.

Highlighting a raft of success that took place in almost all of the human development and economic indicators under the current government, Sajeeb Wazed, also the son of the Prime Minister, illustrated the sordid track-record the country had suffered during the BNP-Jamaat rule.

Sajeeb Wazed termed BNP an anti-state political party, recounting how the BNP stalwarts remained hell bent on unleashing a spree of corruption and state-sponsored terrorism during their misrule.

In reference to Malaysia's advancement, he said as Mahathir Mohamad presented his country with a period of rapid modernization and economic growth, his countrymen lent their faith on him and stood beside.

"Like him, it is Awami League that liberated our country and had our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman not been assassinated, the course of our national progress and the fate of the people would have been changed," he said.

Citing to an unprecedented transformation in the ICT sector under the present government, the ICT Affairs Adviser said: "We in a span of eight years helped the country excel as the second in ICT outsourcing globally".

While one had to pay almost Taka 90,000 for obtaining 1mbps internet during BNP regime, now it costs only 600 for the use of the said volume, he added.

Moreover, Sajeeb Wazed illustrated an array of activities undertaken by the government to transform this sector.

He expressed the hope that fourth generation (4G) internet services will be introduced for the people of Dhaka and Chittagong by end of 2018.

"To accelerate internet speed at rural part of the country, work is underway in four phases to spread optical fiber line," he said.

First two phases have been completed, while the third phase, now underway, would see this work taking place in as many as 2,600 unions, Sajeeb Wazed said.

On decentralization of work force and light up the remote part of the country with the power of ICT, the advisor said that plans and works are laid out to set out a good number of high-tech parks at district levels across the country.

On the front of introduction of ICT in maintaining land record, he lent out high optimism about complete digitization of the system by 2018.

Work is progressing first and already 30% of the work has been finished, and with digitization of the system, settlement of land related disputes would become much more cost-effective and time-efficient.
