2 shown arrested in murder case

Two people, who were detained yesterday, have been shown arrested in a murder case filed last night in connection with the mysterious death of a housemaid and rampage over it at Banasree in Dhaka.

Angry locals ransacked a house, torched a vehicle and damaged a dozen others following the death of Laily Begum, 25, on Friday.

A relative of the deceased filed a murder case with Khilgaon Police Station, said Shiblee Noman, additional deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel zone) this morning. 

Two persons house owner Moeen Uddin and guard Tipu who were detained for questioning yesterday, have been shown arrested in the murder case, the police official said.

Meanwhile, police filed the other case in connection with an attack on law enforcers during the violence in the area, Shiblee Noman added.

Yesterday, the agitating people ransacked around a dozen vehicles on the road passing along the canal at Banasree from Rampura Bridge and burned tyres, forcing police to halt traffic on the road in the evening.

Laily Begum used to work as a part-time maid at the house of Moeen Uddin at House 14 on Road 4 in Block D, Banasree.
