The nation is set to celebrate with much enthusiasm and fanfare the month of victory, beginning today. This year the country will be celebrating the 45th Victory Day on December 16.

Forty-five years back, our country was liberated on the 16th of December after around nine months of war of independence and the supreme sacrifice of three million people and the honour of nearly half a million women.

Different socio-political, educational and cultural institutions and organisations have chalked out a series of programmes to celebrate the nation's great victory under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The month-long festivity will set in motion, with the clock chiming away midnight and the people of all walks of life gathering around the "Eternal Flame" at Suhrawardy Udyan - the historical place where the Pakistan occupation army formally surrendered on December 16 in 1971.

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique will led the rally to be participated by students, teachers, officers and employees and their family-members. The university suspended all classes and official activities till mid-day tomorrow on this occasion.
