The sixth ten-day 'Ganga-Jamuna Theatre Drama Festival' will begin on Friday at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA).

Ganga-Jamuna Natyautsab Parishad will organise the ten-day festival featuring plays and cultural performances by 29 theatre troupes and 63 cultural organisations at four different venues of BSA.

A press conference was held recently at the seminar room of BSA to disclose the details about the festival.

Reading out the written speech, member secretary of the festival Akteruzzaman said, "The prominent theatre personality Ali Zaker will inaugurate the festival while cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor will be present as chief guest at National Theatre Hall."

He also informed that Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla will be present as guest of honour while International Theatre Institute honorary president Ramendu Majumder, thespian Mamunur Rashid will attend as the special guests in the inaugural ceremony.

Convener of the festival and president of Sammilita Sangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus at the press conference said that they had invited 26 local and three Indian theatre troupes - Anik, Ruchiranga and Ganakristi - to participate in the festival to entertain the audience through their performances at the event.

Three shows will be held every day at National Theatre Hall, Experimental Theatre Hall and Studio Theatre Hall.

Moreover, street plays, recitation, dance and musical performances will be held on the premises of National Theatre Hall of the academy.

The festival has been dedicated to recently demised Indian thespian Amalesh Chakrabarty, who along with his theatre troupe Anik, had organised Ganga-Jamuna Theatre Festival in India for years.

A festival committee has been organising the festival separately since 2012 in Bangladesh.
