The last Friday - a concept more usually tied to that of the Jummaitul Wida of Ramadan, and shows the fluidity of the Bengali syncretic culture - of the Amar Ekushey Boi Mela, the country’s biggest literature festival, witnessed very healthy attendance and books sold like hot cakes off the shelves.

As on Fridays and other holidays, gates opened at 11am and right from the start the momentum picked up with the penultimate Shishu Prohor that ran till 1pm - a dedicated segment of the day for kids that has proved a clever way to attract their mothers as well.

The last Shishu Prohor, which has only featured on holidays, is set to be held today (Saturday).
