CHT art, cultural festival begins in Thailand

Thailand keen to build cultural connectivity with Bangladesh

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Bangkok is hosting a three-day festival titled 'Chittagong Hill Tract Fest' that began on Monday in a city hotel marking the 48th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

The festival that will end in Pattaya on Wednesday includes cultural performance by 16-member dance troupe from the Chittagong Hill Tract.

The Embassy also organised an art exhibition entitled “Hills Heritage and Ethnic Colours” with the participation of five Chittagong Hill Tract artists led by eminent painter Kanak Chanpa Chakma.

Celebrated artists Ferdous Ara, Shakila Sharma and Channel i Shera Kantha Star also performed at the fest.

The Cultural Minister of Thailand Vira Rojpoj Chanarat was present as the guest at the reception hosted on Monday evening.

Recalling his visit to Bangladesh during Pohela Boishakh in 2015, the Thai Cultural Minister praised Bangladesh’s vibrant and secular cultural identity, said a press release on Tuesday.

“Thailand looks forward to building cultural connectivity with its Bay of Bengal neighbour Bangladesh based on common language, New Year and similar hill tribes,” commented Minister Vira. 

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Virasakdi Futrakul and Minister attached to the Prime Minister Kobasak Pootrakool were also present at the reception. 

Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem greeted the guests at the National Day reception.

Ambassador Muna paid profound tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by referring him as the greatest Bengali of all times. 

“Bangladesh would continue to assert its national identity based on 1971 values of democracy, secularism, tolerance and Bengali nationalism in its foreign policy engagement with Thailand,” she added. 

She also highlighted Bangladesh’s recent achievement of fulfilling all three criteria to graduate from LDC and recalled the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier, Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand hoisted the national flag and led the Embassy and the expatriate Bangladesh community in Thailand in singing national anthem 'Amar Sonar Bangla" simultaneously at 9am local time. 

Messages issued by President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs on the occasion of  the Independence and National Day were read out. 

A special prayer was offered for eternal peace of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and the martyrs of the glorious War of Liberation.
