Germany expresses commitment to give euro 285.3m

Germany has expressed a commitment to provide euro 285.3 million for development in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh and Germany have completed their development cooperation negotiations 2018 with new commitments, said a German Embassy in a press release today.

With this, overall amount since 1972 reached euro 3 billion.

During the negotiations, Germany also announced further assistance of euro 29 million to Rohingya and host communities.

Bilateral negotiations on development cooperation between the Government of Bangladesh and the Government of Germany were held in Dhaka on Monday, November 19, 2018, said the press release.

The delegation of Bangladesh was headed by Md Khalilur Rahman Khan, Additional Secretary, Europe Wing of Economic Relations Division under the Ministry of Finance.

The delegation of the Federal Republic of Germany was headed by Dr Wolfram Klein, Head of South Asia Division in the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Peter Fahrenholtz, Ambassador of Germany to Bangladesh and Mahmuda Begum, Secretary-in-Charge, Economic Relations Division (ERD) also spoke at the meeting.

The negotiations took place in a friendly atmosphere of constructive cooperation, it said.

The two delegations had an open and fruitful exchange of views on ongoing projects and programmes in the field of Financial and Technical Cooperation (FC and TC) as well as on future development cooperation.

As a result of the negotiations, commitments for the following sectors of Bangladesh-German mutual Cooperation were made - renewable energy and energy efficiency, rule of law and good governance, adaptation to climate change in urban areas.

In addition, support to the management of the Sundarbans Mangrove Forests was agreed.
