No more funds will be provided to public banks: Finance Minister

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Sunday said that from now no more funds will be provided to state-owned banks from the national exchequer.

The minister disclosed the decision at a press briefing after a meeting with the chairman and managing directors (MD) of the state-owned commercial banks held at the auditorium of NEC in Agargaon in the capital.

He said public banks had been provided funds from the national exchequer for filling up the capital deficit. But now they have to earn their own to maintain all expenditures alongside serving the people.

According to the data of the finance department of the Ministry of Finance, in the last 10 years, Sonali, Agrany, Rupali, Basic and BDBL took around Taka 15 thousand crores from the national exchequer to meet the deficit of the capital.
