University Grants Commission (UGC) said government mobile operator-Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd would be providing low-cost internet bandwidth to students from public and private universities.

Using the UGC-run Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) platform to run online classes, the learners from 42 public and 68 private universities will get the facilities, said UGC Director Samsul Arefin.

In a tweet, the UGC said the students would be able to take part in the online classes by applying for Zoom.

Under the Teletalk network, students can get the Tk 100 recharging facility per month.

The recharged money is deposited into the students' original accounts and spent on voice calling and results.

Unused funds are to be transferred to the next reset. The requirement would not extend to students who have a balance below Tk 100, however.

On July 21, the Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) sent a letter to all mobile operators seeking cooperation in this regard including Teletalk.
