Legendary singer and composer Subir Nandi, who was put on life support after he suffered a heart attack on Sunday night, would now be sent abroad for better treatment as his health condition improved a little, family source said.

“His heart is not working well. Doctors of CMH have suggested us to send him abroad for Cardiac surgery,” Tripti Kar, Nand’s relative, told journalists.

On April 13, the noted singer Subir Nandi was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after he suffered a heart attack.

Later, he was put on life support as his condition deteriorated at that night.

Doctors of CMH kept him under intensive observation at Coronary Care Unit (CCU) for 3 days.

The observation period ended on Thursday noon.

“His health condition is better now, doctors have performed a trial to remove his life-support and he is now fit to take abroad for treatment,” doctors of CMH said.

Subir Nandi, 66, has been suffering from kidney ailments for long times.

He was undergoing regular dialysis.

Nandi won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in the films Mahanayak (1984), Shuvoda (1986), Srabon Megher Din (1999), Megher Pore Megh (2004) and Mohua Sundori (2015).

The singer sang more than 2,500 songs in his four decades of career. This year, he was awarded the prestigious Ekushey Padak.

He was born in Baniachang upazila of Habiganj on Nov 19, 1953.
