Saplings distributed among 400 students in Lalmonirhat

Some 400 students of Taluk Shakhati High School in Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district got saplings for planting those to create a green nature and improve environment and ecosystem amid changing climate.

Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Md Abu Jafar distributed 400 saplings of fruit and medicinal plants among the students at a function held on the school ground on Saturday afternoon as the chief guest, said officials.

The saplings were distributed under sponsorship of a local environmental organisation 'Sabuz Prithibi Banchao' (Save the Green Earth) to inspire the young generations in tree plantation to reduce adverse impacts of climate change.

Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Abdul Mannan attended the function as the special guest with Chairman of the school governing body Abu Hanif Chayan in the chair.

Assistant Teacher Md Nasirul Mandal, Founder Director of 'Sabuz Prithibi Banchao' Md Abdur Razzaque, its members Golam Kibria and Sajal Ahmed also spoke.

Md Abdur Razzaque said there is no alternative to massive tree plantation to mitigate adverse impacts of climate change for maintaining ecological balance and improving the environment to keep the planet habitable for all living beings.

The chief guest said massive tree plantation would create an eco-friendly green nature to adapt to the adverse impacts of climate change bringing environmental equilibrium and economic development.

"Every student at the school levels should plant at least ten saplings on their homesteads and other appropriate places also to make the ongoing tree plantation campaign a grand success and enhance forestation giving nature a greener look," he added.
