Covid-19 cases cross 54,000 in Rangpur division

The number of Covid-19 cases has crossed the 54,000 mark in Rangpur division where the pandemic situation continues improving consistently during the last more than one month.

"The number of Covid-19 cases rose to 54,066 with diagnosis of 102 new patients after testing 984 samples at the positivity rate of 10.37 percent on Thursday," Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 7.07 percent on Wednesday, 8.46 percent on Tuesday, 11.17 percent on Monday, 9.79 percent on Sunday, 9.80 percent on Saturday and 6.88 on Friday last in the division.

The district-wise break up of total 54,066 patients include 12,249 of Rangpur, 3,624 Panchagarh, 4,347 of Nilphamari, 2,711 of Lalmonirhat, 4,578 of Kurigram, 7,333 of Thakurgaon, 14,410 of Dinajpur and 4,814 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

"Meanwhile, one more patient died in Rangpur district during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the number of casualties to 1,214 in the division," he said

"The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.25 percent in the division," Dr Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of the 1,214 fatalities currently stands at 290 in Rangpur, 79 in Panchagarh, 87 in Nilphamari, 64 in Lalmonirhat, 66 in Kurigram, 245 in Thakurgaon, 320 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

"Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, a total of 2,65,019 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 54,066 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 20.40 percent in the division," Siddiqui added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam told BSS that the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 49,863 with recovery of 210 more patients on Thursday raising the average recovery rate to 92.23 percent in the division.

The 49,863 recovered patients include 10,1483 of Rangpur, 3,274f Panchagarh, 4,216 Nilphamari, 2,534 in Lalmonirhat, 4,338 in Kurigram, 6,621 Thakurgaon, 14,030 of Dinajpur and 4,667 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 54,066 patients, 128 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 17 critical patients at ICU beds and five at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 49,863 patients and 1,214 deaths while 2,861 are remaining in home isolation.

"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 22,34,090, and among them, 12,98,486 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division," Dr Islam added.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the overall Covid-19 situation is improving satisfactorily in Rangpur division.

"However, everyone should be careful enough and properly abide by the health directives, hygiene rules, wear masks and maintain physical distance to further contain spread of the deadly virus in the division," he added.
