Covid-19 cases reach 97,959 with 45 afresh in Rajshahi division

Forty-five more people tested positive for Covid-19 in seven districts of the division on Thursday, taking the caseload to 97,959 since the pandemic began in March last year.

The new daily infection figure is equal to the previous day's 45, while on Sunday the infection number was 30, which was the lowest ever since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country around six months back, Dr. Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health, said.

Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 93,780 in the division after another 81 patients were discharged from the hospitals on the same day.

The death toll reached 1,660, including 683 in Bogura, 312 in Rajshahi with 188 in its city, and 172 in Natore, as two fresh cases of fatality were reported during the period, Dr. Talukder added.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under treatment while 22,583 were kept in isolation units of different dedicated hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 18,912 have been released.

Meanwhile, 84 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 120 others were released from isolation during the same time.

Of the 45 new cases, 11 each were detected in Rajshahi, including nine in its city, and Bogura, followed by nine in Pabna, six in Natore, four in Sirajganj, three in Naogaon, and one in Joypurhat districts.

With the newly detected patients, the district-wise break-up of the total cases now stands at 27,765 in Rajshahi, including 22,366 in the city, 5,609 in Chapainawabganj, 6,367 in Naogaon, 8,306 in Natore, 4,585 in Joypurhat, 21,440 in Bogura, 11,277 in Sirajganj and 12,610 in Pabna.

A total of 1,12,457 people have, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 last year to prevent the community transmission of the deadly coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 1,09,537 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their 14-day quarantine.
