Two die of Covid-19, casualties reach 1,224 in Rangpur

Two more Covid-19 patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the number of coronavirus-related casualties to 1,228 in the Rangpur division.

"The Covid-19 situation continues improving almost during the last seven weeks in the division," Focal Person of the Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The two new casualties were reported from Thakurgaon and Dinajpur districts in the division.

"The district-wise breakup of the 1,228 fatalities stands at 291 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 87 in Nilphamari, 66 in Lalmonirhat, 67 in Kurigram, 249 in Thakurgaon, 325 in Dinajpur, and 63 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.24 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 54,797 as 42 new patients were diagnosed after testing 827 samples of Rangpur division at the daily positivity rate of 5.08 percent on Thursday.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 3.89 percent on Wednesday, 5.84 percent on Tuesday, 5.95 percent on Monday, 7.06 percent on Sunday, 5.14 percent on Saturday and 7.39 percent on Friday last in the division.

"The district-wise break up of total 54,797 patients include 12,370 of Rangpur, 3,738 Panchagarh, 4,404 of Nilphamari, 2,728 of Lalmonirhat, 4,622 of Kurigram, 7,497 of Thakurgaon, 14,597 of Dinajpur and 4,841 of Gaibandha in the division," he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,77,166 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 54,797 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.77 percent in the division.

In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 51,472 with a recovery of 61 more infected patients on Thursday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 93.93 percent.

The 51,472 recovered patients include 10,684 of Rangpur, 3,443 Panchagarh, 4,292 Nilphamari, 2,601 Lalmonirhat, 4,486 Kurigram, 6,951 Thakurgaon, 14,245 in Dinajpur, and 4,770 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 54,797 patients, 123 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 13 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 51,472 patients and 1,228 deaths while 1,974 are remaining now in home isolation.

"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 27,25,394, and among them, 15,96,927 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division," Dr. Islam added.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said people should abide by the health directives to check further spread of the deadly virus.
