RMCH counts five more deaths at Covid-19 unit

Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) recorded five more fatalities at its Covid-19 unit in the last 24 hours till 6 am today, raising the death toll to 146 so far this month.

However, the previous day's fatality figure was one which was the ever-lowest one in the hospital since the second wave of the pandemic hit the country around six months back. Earlier, the number of casualties was 340 in August, 566 in July, and 405 in June, health officials said.

RMCH Director Brigadier General Dr. Shamim Yazdani told newsmen that two of the deceased were the residents of Rajshahi, while one each from Naogaon, Pabna and Chapainawabganj districts. Of the fresh fatalities, four had symptoms of Covid-19 and another had post-Covid-19 complexity8. Among the new five deaths, three were male and two female.

Thirty more patients were admitted to the designated Covid-19 wards of the hospital in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of admitted patients to 116.

Nineteen other patients returned home from the RMCH Covid-19 unit after being cured during the time.

Meanwhile, 11 more people tested positive after testing 279 samples in Rajshahi's two laboratories on Thursday, showing a 3.94 percent positivity rate against 4.26 percent on Wednesday.
