2 die of Covid-19, casualties reach 1,234 in Rangpur

Two more Covid-19 patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today raising the number of coronavirus related casualties to 1,234 in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the two new casualties were reported from Rangpur district in the division where no fatality was reported during the past three consecutive days.

"The Covid-19 situation continues improving amid a declining positivity rate and a rising recovery rate almost during the last eight weeks in the division," Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam told BSS today.

"The district-wise break up of the 1,234 fatalities stands at 293 in Rangpur, 80 in Panchagarh, 88 in Nilphamari, 67 in Lalmonirhat, 68 in Kurigram, 250 in Thakurgaon, 325 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha districts of the division.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 2.25 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases reached 54,954 as nine new patients were diagnosed after testing 190 samples of Rangpur division at the daily positivity rate of 4.74 percent on Friday.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 2.87 percent on Thursday. 2.26 percent on Wednesday, 2.30 percent on Tuesday, 2.84 percent on Monday, 4.80 percent on Sunday and 3.44 percent on Saturday last in the division," Dr Zakirul said.

"The district-wise break up of total 54,954 patients include 12,399 of Rangpur, 3,760 Panchagarh, 4,416 of Nilphamari, 2,729 of Lalmonirhat, 4,631 of Kurigram, 7,522 of Thakurgaon, 14,648 of Dinajpur and 4,849 of Gaibandha in the division," he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said a total of 2,81,858 collected samples were tested till Friday, and of them, 54,954 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.50 percent in the division.

In the meantime, the total number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 51,825 with recovery of 21 more infected patients on Friday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 94.31 percent.

The 51,825 recovered patients include 10,731 of Rangpur, 3,511 Panchagarh, 4,311 Nilphamari, 2,609 Lalmonirhat, 4,511 Kurigram, 7,047 Thakurgaon, 14,313 in Dinajpur and 4,786 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the 54,654 patients, 92 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 14 critical patients at ICU beds and 10 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 51,825 patients and 1,234 deaths while 1,803 are remaining now in home isolation.

"Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 37,97,378, and among them, 17,13,403 got the second dose of the jab till Friday in the division," Dr Islam added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said people should abide by the health directives despite the improving Covid-19 situation.
