India to host “Global Bio-India 2019” summit next month

India will host the ‘Global Bio-India 2019’ summit, one of the largest biotechnology stakeholders conglomerate, at New Delhi from November 21-23 to showcase the country’s strength and build new partnerships and investment opportunities.

India is hosting the three-day mega event for the biotech community to attract investments, showcase its indigenous strengths and more importantly fuel the hopes and aspirations of the indigenous talent pool, said Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister for Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Health & Family Welfare here yesterday.

The DBT, government of India along with its public sector undertaking, biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is jointly organizing this event, first of its kind in the country, officials of the ministry said.

The event has been structured to bring together stakeholders from 30 countries, 250 start-ups and 200 exhibitors. Central and state ministries, regulatory bodies, investors, totaling to 3500 participants is expected to join the event.

The event is likely to strengthen the indigenous research capabilities, bio-entrepreneurship, investments and last-mile-delivery of technology across rural India and tier-2, 3 cities.

Biotechnology is recognized as the key driver for contributing to India’s $5Tn economy target and is identified as one of the thrust areas for driving its GDP growth. India is positioned today at about $51bn and is marching towards $150bn, an official handout said.
