The new Chinese firms to be added to a US trade blacklist are drone maker DJI and chipmaker SMIC.

In total, 77 companies - most of them Chinese - were added to the list.

The Entity List is drawn up by the Department of Commerce of the United States and already contains more than 275 Chinese businesses, including Huawei, the telecoms giant.

The step is seen by the outgoing US president Donald Trump, who has taken a hard line on China, as a defiant final blow.

Because of suspected links to the Chinese military, the US administration said it had placed export controls on SMIC to limit its access to US technology, the BBC reported.
