Gayle signs off List A career with ton

Chris Gayle enjoyed a brilliant Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 swansong for the Jamaica Scorpions, leading the team to a 33-run victory over the Barbados Pride at Kensington Oval.

The West Indies juggernaut hit a 114-ball 122 with 10 fours and eight sixes to sign off for Jamaica as his team posted 226 all out in 47.4 overs, batting first.

While the total did not seem to be big enough to thwart Barbados, Gayle’s knock gained all the more importance as Jamaica spinners got a stranglehold on Barbados batsmen and bowled them out for just 193. Gayle contributed with the ball, picking up the wicket of Sharmarh Brooks, trapped leg before wicket to break a 61-run partnership with Jonathan Carter.

“It's very pleasing to get a hundred in my last 50-over game for Jamaica, it's something I will always cherish,” Gayle was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

“To lead the team to a win makes it more special. It's been a pleasure representing my country, more so captaining them. I'm thankful and grateful to be standing here aged 39 and still get a century in my last game for Jamaica.

Gayle reiterated that there was still a lot of cricket left in him but also said that he was going to focus now on being a family man.

“There's a lot in the tank to be honest, but there's life after cricket, so have to enjoy life as well. Playing cricket for over 25 years has been a great achievement from a personal point of view, but I have a family now. I have to gel with them as much as possible and watch your kid grow,” he concluded.
