Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan returned home from Australia on Sunday afternoon after seeing doctors there. The all-rounder, who also leads the Tigers in the T20s, said the infection of his finger is under control and he could return to the field very soon.

However, he has to do a screening every week to check if the infection remains under control, Shakib told newsmen at the airport.

"The physicians in Australia said no surgery could be done in the next 6 to 12 months. If the infection is inside the bone, it cannot be healed. Since there is no blood inside the bones, antibiotic do not reach there. So we have to wait," said the player.

"This is a problem they cannot say when will heal. I might be able to play in a month. But if it hurts when I play, I will have to wait for a surgery. The whole thing is uncertain. But right now I have no pain, so I hope I can play without a surgery," he added.

"I need to keep doing this hand therapy. I have already started this in Australia. The first priority is getting the strength back."

Shakib is unfazed by his presence in the national side. "We played the final of the Asia Cup despite me not being in the team. It's not only in cricket, in any game one may get injured. Let's look at the brighter side, this will give some players an opportunity to shine. If the team can reach the Asia Cup final without Tamim and me, why cannot they beat Zimbabwe and West Indies?"
